Several VW enthusiast met unofficially at the then Jay Marks, Chevy dealership in La Porte Texas in 1988. Those in attendance were, Sandy & Kermit Leistikow, Bennie Coulson, Donny Moore, James Hulme & Rook Lausch.

By June 23, 1988 they decided to establish guidelines to for the Bay Area Volkswagen Club with discussions held at Sylvan Beach Park in La Porte, TX. Just inquire about the date to Sandy; a day she remembers like it was yesterday. Why... their daughter Erin was born by 7:00am the very next day. To show how much VDubs can affect your lives, their second daughter, Amy was born in 1983 and was driven home from the Texas Women's Hospital in a 1973 VW Square Back.

The Leistikows (Kermit & Sandy) already owned a VW parts supply shop called K&E established in March of 1978 located in Baytown. In March of 1987 they opened a second shop near the Galleria area called ASK imports standing for Amy, Sandy & Kermit. In 2005 both Kermit and Sandy continue to our longest standing members and sponsors.
